Presidential Pick: Rehoboth Beach, Delaware
Delmarva is named for the peninsula that runs from southern Delaware, down the Maryland coastline, and then south along Virginia’s Eastern Shore. Each of the towns bordering the Atlantic Ocean has its own appeal and vibe. At the top of the peninsula is the Delaware town of Rehoboth Beach, then Dewey Beach and across the Indian River Bridge, Bethany Beach. Rehoboth and Bethany are especially family friendly with festive boardwalks, while Dewey is known for its live music and party atmosphere. There are countless opportunities for seaside entertainment in these communities including kayaking, canoeing, jet skiing, windsurfing, paddle boarding, sailing and fishing.

Just want to go for a day trip? Pack water, blanket, sunscreen and towels and drive to Rehoboth Beach. Stop by City Hall on the 229 Rehoboth Ave for a daily parking permit, and find a spot on the beach. Beaches near Rehoboth Avenue are crowded so try the south end streets like Hickman or Stockley . Hungry? The boardwalk has fast food but if possible pick up a pizza at Grottos near Rehoboth Avenue. Beware of hungry seagulls who like to steal your Thrasher’s French Fries.

For quieter less crowded beaches with showers bathrooms, and but limited food options, drive South on Route 1 past Dewey Beach to Tower Road, a Delaware State Beach. For $10.00 use the facilities and avoid parking hassles. Get your fill of frolicking in the surf then check out Funland on the boardwalk between Delaware and Brooklyn Streets. Bring quarters for the arcade games. Funland opens at 1:00 PM so arrive early to avoid lines for the rides. Most rides are very tame and designed for young children.

Next, wander the Rehoboth boardwalk sampling beach favorites like cotton candy, caramel popcorn and soft serve ice cream. Before heading home, stop by the Tanger Outlets while dad plays miniature golf with the kids.

Keep an eye out for the Presidential motorcade. You might see President Joe Biden (a homeowner in Rehoboth Beach) swing by for some ice cream!
