Spring 2026 has been a roller coaster ride so far. We had a few days hovering around 70 degrees Fahrenheit, and the next day, it snowed. It’s hard to pack for that craziness. Just try to roll with it by layering.

March has been very breezy, creating a windchill that lowers the ambient temperature (meaning it feels colder than the temperature). April will probably have the same ups and downs, but add in rain.

Cherry blossom season is usually in the low 60’s, but the wind makes it feel colder. The temperatures dip lower in the evenings, hovering around 40-50 degrees. PS: I always recommend wearing pink.

By May, it’ll be very warm and sunny. Here are some ideas for what you can wear when visiting Washington DC in the springtime.

We are excited that our Tidal Basin Seawalk was completed and refreshed.
The best place to see the cherry blossoms is the Tidal Basin but there are other great spots: The US Capitol, the US Arboretum, the Kenwood neighborhood in Maryland and the Meadowlark Botanical Garden in Virginia.
Jackets or long sleeve shirts are a must when it’s cool and windy. Remember to wear comfortable shoes and watch the crosswalk signs before walking into the street, please.
Most spring days have windy, so a tight fitting baseball hat is a good idea for sun and rain.
Last year boots with skirts were popular. Too soon to tell this year, but I predict it’ll still be a good option.
By late April and May, it warms up nicely, so skirts with sneakers is a great look
Shopping on 14th Street. A cross body bag is a practical and stylish choice for a day in the city.
I’m a fan of this stripe shirt and fitted leg pant on this gentleman in Dupont Circle.
Wide leg jeans are popular in DC.

I like the outfits on this stylish older couple near the White House.
Disregard the old adage no white until Memorial Day.
This spring we are seeing lots of trench and longer coats. Here’s a person waiting for the Metro (which you absolutely should choose instead of driving yourself here)
You can bring a picnic to the National Mall (I wouldn’t bring alcohol though).
DC is a very casual place except for fine dining and at events, so you will be comfortable in anything.

I hope this has given you some ideas for your next trip to Washington. We look forward to welcoming you! For more tips, check out my blog: What to Wear in Washington DC
